About The Position

The Accounting Specialist will function as a key member of the Finance Team responsible for the day-to-day accounting of the Bank, including account reconciliation, journal entries, processing accounts payable, and accounting for fixed assets and prepaids. This role maintains accurate and complete financial records and collaborates with other departments on accounting-related questions.

Requirements

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, prioritize, follow-through, follow instruction, and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
  • A high level of organization and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Completion of specific related courses such as: General accounting and banking, Core banking platform training

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of one (1) years’ experience in accounting or banking is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare journal entries, as needed.
  • Prepare daily and monthly general ledger and internal account reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and resolve any issues in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for the accounts payable function, ensuring payments are properly approved, invoices are processed in a timely manner, and payments are made accurately. Accounts payable includes the processing of employee credit card payments and expense reimbursements.
  • Responsible for setting up new vendors on the accounts payable system and ensuring vendor documentation such as W-9s are received.
  • Responsible for the prepaid and fixed asset setup and maintenance.
  • Assist in the month-end close process.
  • Assist in the preparation and distribution of the various daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Assist the Staff Accountant Officer in the preparation of the annual 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC reporting.
  • Work side-by-side with the other Accounting Specialist and periodically rotate responsibilities to ensure both positions are fully cross-trained.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, including adherence to banking laws and accounting standards (GAAP).
  • Assist in the documentation of accounting reconciliation and function procedures for development of an accounting manual.
  • Assist in providing requested items for the annual financial audit, tax return, and accounting-related areas of internal audits and regulatory examinations.
  • Collaborate with other departments on accounting-related questions and research, and support bank operations.
  • Responsible for identifying opportunities to improve processes and procedures to create efficiencies and/or enhance internal controls, while maintaining a proper segregation of duties.
  • Proactively bring innovative ideas and solutions to the table.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Staff Accountant Officer.
