About The Position

Intermountain Electric Inc. (IME) is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounting Specialist to join their Accounting team. This position will primarily focus on payroll processing while also supporting accounts payable and other accounting functions as needed. The ideal candidate will bring strong payroll experience, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of payroll and accounting experience required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required
  • Strong payroll processing knowledge and understanding of payroll compliance requirements
  • Ability to anticipate and meet internal customer needs
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and reporting
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting accounts payable processes preferred
  • Experience processing union payroll preferred
  • Knowledge of JD Edwards and Kofax preferred

Responsibilities

  • Process weekly union payroll and biweekly non-union payroll, ensuring compliance with multiple IBEW labor agreements and varying state and regional requirements.
  • Review and validate timesheets submitted by field leadership, ensuring accuracy in hours, job costing, and employee classifications.
  • Maintain and update payroll records including new hires, terminations, pay changes, benefits deductions, garnishments, and tax withholdings.
  • Prepare and submit certified payroll reports and OCIP/DCIP documentation, ensuring timely and accurate compliance with project and government requirements.
  • Partner with HR and the parent company to ensure accurate benefit deductions and reporting of union fringe benefits.
  • Research and resolve payroll discrepancies, including uncashed checks, stop payments, retroactive corrections, and employee inquiries.
  • Stay current on federal, state, and union regulations impacting payroll and labor compliance requirements.
  • Assist with accounts payable functions including invoice processing, coding, data entry, and vendor communication as needed.
  • Support month-end accounting processes and maintain organized payroll and AP documentation in accordance with company policies.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external auditors to support payroll, accounting, union, and government audits.
  • Demonstrate a high level of confidentiality, professionalism, and accuracy when handling sensitive employee and financial information.
  • Assist with payroll system updates, process improvements, and implementation projects as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
