About The Position

The Accounting Specialist is responsible for preparing daily deposits, printing and mailing outgoing checks, and coding and balancing all daily cash transactions for assigned companies with minimal supervision. The role also involves performing special projects. This position is located with National Indemnity Company in Omaha, Nebraska, and is not eligible for employer visa sponsorship. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and two years college or equivalent work experience required.
  • One or more years work experience.
  • Basic accounting knowledge.
  • Math through Algebra knowledge.
  • Personal computer and related software knowledge.
  • Alpha/numeric filing knowledge.
  • Typing 35 wpm with accuracy.
  • Personal computer and related software skills.
  • Proofreading skills.
  • Ability to work accurately with detail.
  • Ability to work well with others and/or independently.
  • Ability to read/comprehend documents.
  • Ability to compile, organize, compute, and verify data.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares deposits (i.e., incoming checks and cash) for all companies.
  • Notifies appropriate personnel of checks received and to obtain approval for deposit and follows up as needed to minimize length of time checks are held and not deposited.
  • Prints outgoing checks for all companies using purchased software, personal computer, and laser printer.
  • Verifies number of checks printed and batch totals, obtains signatures for checks issued over facsimile limit, and organizes signed checks and remittance enclosures backup for mailing.
  • May prepare summaries of daily cash transactions for Cash Manager.
  • May code daily cash transactions for assigned companies.
  • Performs special projects such as compiling financial reports or obtaining information from various records and transferring information onto personal computer.
  • Assists with preparation of electronic statutory quarterly or annual statements and electronic filings using computer software applications by entering data, verifying data is entered correctly, and printing annual and quarterly statements.
