About The Position

Begin a challenging career with the Norfolk Airport Authority, a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our mission is to connect our community with the world by safely, reliably, and efficiently operating Norfolk International Airport. This position is primarily responsible for ensuring proper payment of invoices, maintaining accurate accounts payable records, generating invoices for Authority customers, processing receipts of customer payments and posting journal entries.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of accounting procedures is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and time-management skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to learn and use accounting software systems (e.g. MS Business Central or similar)
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years’ accounting experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility to hold a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge as may be required by assigned job duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability to successfully complete a criminal background check and other pre-employment requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in governmental or fund accounting, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with monthly reconciliations of bank statements and subsidiary ledgers.
  • Support internal and external audit requests by providing documentation.
  • Create internal monthly department reports.
  • Process deposits and receipts from customer payments.
  • Maintain vendor and customer contract database.
  • Process finance department purchase orders.
  • Receive and process finance department mail.
  • Provide backup to Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable accountants including issuing customer invoices and processing vendor invoices.
  • Prepare annual 1099 forms and assist in the preparation of required department reports.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned and directed.
  • Administer and adhere to all Authority policies and guidelines.
