About The Position

The purpose of this job is to perform specialized accounting and administrative work related to the financial management, monitoring, reporting, and compliance of federal, state, and local grants administered by Dorchester County. The position supports grant accounting activities by maintaining financial records, preparing reports, and processing transactions.

Requirements

  • Requires an Associate’s degree, vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education.
  • Two years of accounting, bookkeeping or closely related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

  • Experience in governmental or public sector accounting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides backup coverage for designated grants and special project functions during the Grants and Special Projects Coordinator’s absence or when otherwise assigned by the Financial Services Manager.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records for assigned grants and related programs.
  • Process grant-related invoices, reimbursements, journal entries, purchase orders, and budget transfers.
  • Monitor grant expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budgets and funding requirements.
  • Assist with preparing financial reports, reimbursement requests, and grant closeout documentation.
  • Track grant revenues, expenditures, encumbrances, and available balances.
  • Review grant documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Assist departments with grant budgeting, coding, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal departments and external agencies regarding grant financial activities.
  • Maintain organized grant files and supporting documentation for audits and compliance reviews.
  • Assist with annual audits and provide requested grant-related financial information.
  • Research and interpret grant requirements, financial guidelines, and reporting procedures.
  • Prepare spreadsheets, reconciliations, and financial summaries as needed.
  • Respond to inquiries from County staff, auditors, and granting agencies.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
