About The Position

Partner Engineering and Science, Inc. is seeking a full-time, in-office Accounting Specialist to join our Accounting team at our Torrance headquarters. This position is designed for an individual seeking to build a long-term career in accounting, with opportunities to progress into Staff Accountant and Senior Accountant roles. The Accounting Specialist will support general ledger accounting, month-end close activities, lease administration, and U.S. federal and state tax compliance. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, highly organized, and possesses a solid understanding of accounting fundamentals, including debits, credits, and financial statement relationships. This position reports directly to the Accounting Manager.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • 2-4 years of accounting experience
  • Experience supporting month-end close and account reconciliations
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred
  • Experience with ERP systems preferred
  • Exposure to lease accounting (ASC 842), tax compliance, or public accounting is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage federal, state, and local tax compliance requirements and filing deadlines.
  • Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for income tax, franchise tax, sales and use tax, business personal property tax, and other applicable tax filings.
  • Research and respond to tax notices, assessments, and correspondence from federal, state, and local taxing authorities.
  • Track changes in tax regulations and filing requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and internal business partners to gather information required for tax reporting and compliance.
  • Maintain organized tax records, documentation, and compliance calendars.
  • Assist with tax audits, inquiries, and requests from regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with company policies and U.S. GAAP.
  • Reconcile assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
  • Analyze account activity and investigate discrepancies, variances, and unusual fluctuations.
  • Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for financial reporting.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger records and accounting documentation.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance accounting efficiency and internal controls.
  • Maintain lease accounting schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Track and monitor lease additions, modifications, renewals, and terminations.
  • Record lease accounting transactions and reconciliations in accordance with ASC 842.
  • Coordinate with business departments to gather lease-related information.
  • Assist with lease-related reporting, financial statement disclosures, and audit support.
  • Maintain organized accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Support internal and external audit requests.
  • Assist with special projects and other accounting duties as assigned.
  • Perform administrative tasks necessary to support efficient accounting operations.
