Accounting Solutions Architect

Tabs•New York, NY
•$135,000 - $185,000

About The Position

The Accounting Solutions Architect is a senior individual contributor in Tabs’ Founder’s Office, partnering closely with Product, Post-Sales (Implementation and Customer Success), and GTM (Marketing and Sales), and reporting to Tabs’ Co-Founder. The role has two mandates: serve as Tabs’ accounting and audit expert, and keep customer needs central across sales, post-sales, and product. It is not a traditional solutions engineering, support, or product management role; it does not carry a quota, own a backlog, or run tickets. Instead, the role shapes the product by applying deep knowledge of accounting systems and customer needs. The Accounting Solutions Architect owns the company’s technical accounting perspective, particularly on ASC 606 revenue recognition, performance obligations and SSP allocation, contract modifications, variable consideration, usage and consumption billing, deferred revenue, multi-element arrangements, and audit trails. The role reviews product designs, data models, and integration specifications; maintains internal accounting guidance; and trains GTM and post-sales teams. Across the customer journey, the role joins pre-sales conversations, helps configure complex implementations to reflect customer contracts and accounting policies, and builds ongoing relationships with controllers and accountants using Tabs. It turns customer feedback and supporting evidence into structured input for product managers, partners on discovery and acceptance criteria, and tests finance-facing features as an early user. The role also represents the accounting profession within Tabs and represents Tabs to the profession through industry events, content, webinars, and engagement with accounting communities, auditors, and fractional CFO firms. It monitors standard-setting, regulatory changes, and evolving finance-team practices and brings relevant insights to the product roadmap.

Requirements

  • CPA credential, active or inactive, and 7 or more years of accounting or finance experience, or equivalent experience, including meaningful time as a controller, revenue accountant, or senior accounting manager at a B2B SaaS or subscription company.
  • Experience owning a close and undergoing an audit from the company-side perspective.
  • Deep, practical command of ASC 606, including having written a revenue recognition policy or defended one to auditors.
  • Hands-on experience administering or implementing a billing system, revenue recognition system, or ERP.
  • Understanding of data flows among quote, contract, invoice, cash, and general ledger systems, including common points of failure.
  • Comfort and effectiveness on customer calls with CFOs, controllers, and staff accountants; ability to explain complex accounting clearly and listen attentively.
  • Ability to translate between finance teams and product and engineering teams, with prior experience working closely with a software team as a stakeholder, power user, or in a product role.
  • Clear writing skills, including the ability to turn customer discussions into concise, prioritized notes product managers can act on.
  • Analytical, data-driven approach and comfort using spreadsheets, report builders, or SQL queries to investigate customer data.
  • Experience designing or operating SOX-grade controls, audit trails, and role-based permissions over revenue and journal entries.

Nice To Haves

  • Public accounting experience, such as at a Big 4 or regional firm, serving SaaS clients.
  • Experience at a finance software company in solutions, implementation, product, or customer success.
  • A record of shipping software with engineers, including translating an accounting framework into requirements, acceptance criteria, or a data model and seeing it through release.
  • Familiarity with IFRS 15, multi-entity and multi-currency consolidation, and usage-based pricing models.
  • An existing presence in the accounting community through speaking, writing, podcast appearances, or a professional network of controllers and fractional CFOs.
  • Technical fluency to read API documentation, inspect a webhook payload, or sketch a data model with an engineer.
  • Interest in AI applications in the close, such as pre-close anomaly flagging, explaining balance changes, and recommending accounting treatments with a human in the loop.

Responsibilities

  • Own Tabs’ technical accounting point of view, including ASC 606 revenue recognition, performance obligations and SSP allocation, contract modifications, variable consideration, usage and consumption billing, deferred revenue, multi-element arrangements, and related audit trails.
  • Review product designs, data models, and integration specifications for correct accounting policy application; advise product and engineering on tradeoffs and recommendations.
  • Write and maintain internal reference material explaining Tabs’ accounting logic, SSP policies, journal-entry mappings, and month-end close workflows.
  • Train go-to-market and post-sales teams on accounting concepts and communicating with controllers.
  • Join pre-sales calls with prospects’ finance leaders to understand their billing, revenue recognition, and close processes; assess product fit and flag limitations early.
  • Support complex implementations by translating customer contract structures, revenue recognition policies, and charts of accounts into Tabs configurations acceptable to customers’ auditors.
  • Build ongoing relationships with customer controllers and accountants through regular conversations, office hours, and account reviews focused on product effectiveness.
  • Turn customer feedback into structured, prioritized, evidence-backed input for product managers, identifying workarounds, trust gaps, and spreadsheet-based processes.
  • Partner with product managers on discovery and acceptance criteria for finance-facing features; serve as an early user of features affecting the close.
  • Represent the CPA and controller perspective within Tabs when product or business tradeoffs are made.
  • Represent Tabs to the accounting profession through industry events, content, webinars, community engagement, and relationships with auditors and fractional CFO firms.
  • Monitor accounting standard-setting, regulatory changes, and changes in finance-team practices, and bring relevant information to the product roadmap.
