About The Position

The Accounting Lead – Fertility (Health Systems Services) is responsible for leading the day‑to‑day accounting operations for the Fertility platform within Cigna’s Health Systems Services organization, inclusive of Freedom Fertility and Village Fertility Pharmacy (VFP). This role serves as the primary accounting owner for Fertility and is accountable for timely, accurate, and compliant financial reporting while driving consistency with Health Systems Services and enterprise accounting standards. The role provides direct people leadership for the Fertility accountant team. The Accounting Lead will report to the Head of Accounting of Health Systems Services and partner closely with business leadership and cross‑functional teams to support close execution, control environment maturity, and ongoing operational scale. This role is a key bridge between legacy Fertility platform accounting processes and Cigna’s enterprise accounting framework, including ongoing integration of the acquired Village Fertility Pharmacy (VFP) business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including people leadership strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success operating within a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal control frameworks (SOX / SOC).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary accounting lead for the Fertility platform (Freedom Fertility and VFP), with end‑to‑end accountability for general ledger accuracy, close execution, and financial reporting deliverables.
  • Lead and coordinate all monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities in alignment with Health Systems Services timelines and standards.
  • Own key accounting judgments and estimates, escalating complex or sensitive matters to Health Systems Services accounting leadership as appropriate.
  • Directly manage four Fertility accountants, providing coaching, performance management, and development.
  • Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and collaboration norms across direct and matrixed resources.
  • Work closely with matrix partners primarily within Fertility including the broader finance team and business leaders.
  • Support the ongoing integration of Fertility accounting processes, including Village Fertility Pharmacy (VFP).
  • Drive process standardization, documentation, and optimization across close, reconciliations, and reporting activities.
  • Partner with Health Systems Services accounting leaders to implement changes related to systems, controls, and enterprise initiatives.
  • Ensure a strong internal control environment, including execution of key controls and support for SOX and SOC 1 requirements.
  • Partner with Internal Audit and enterprise controllership on walkthroughs, testing, and remediation activities.
  • Identify control gaps or operational risks and proactively implement corrective actions.
  • Act as the primary accounting liaison for Fertility business leaders, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, and other finance partners.
  • Support business initiatives by assessing accounting implications and ensuring alignment with GAAP and enterprise policy.
  • Communicate effectively with both technical accounting partners and non‑finance stakeholders.
