About The Position

SVA is seeking a Manager to join their growing Small Business Accounting team. This role offers the opportunity to refine skills across various industries with a focus on Healthcare clients (medical, dental, and veterinary practices). The position involves continuous learning, client-facing interactions, and mentoring junior staff. The role is within an independent and growing professional services firm that has been certified as a Great Place to Work®. The Accounting Manager will be an integral part of clients' businesses, holding a highly visible and impactful role both internally and externally.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in public accounting required.
  • CPA, EA, or equivalent certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Execute engagements from start to finish, including planning, fieldwork, review, and client communication.
  • Monitor engagement progress against budgeted time, expenses, and completion dates.
  • Supervise the preparation of all client work products.
  • Maintain continuous client contact and develop a thorough understanding of their business.
  • Act as the main contact for new client onboarding.
  • Evaluate internal controls prepared by staff.
  • Communicate important developments, problems, conclusions, and recommendations to the In-Charge.
  • Prepare monthly billings.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client information and adhere to SVA policies.
  • Ensure efficient and satisfactory performance of duties, typically requiring 55 hours/week during busy season and 40-45 hours/week during non-busy season.
  • Assign work to staff members based on their knowledge and capabilities.
  • Prepare and discuss staff performance evaluations.
  • Participate in staff training, offering guidance, direction, and constructive feedback.
  • Lead others, engage in staff development, and take ownership of staff engagement and retention.
  • Identify recruitment needs and participate in interview panels.
  • Transfer client relationships to junior staff as appropriate.
  • Identify and manage underperforming staff.
  • Provide individualized recognition to staff members.
  • Ensure career pathways are accurate and reflective of work performed.
  • Align with firm strategy and communicate developments to staff.
  • Work with a mentor to develop career path.
  • Research complex topics and propose findings with recommendations.
  • Participate in and/or lead SVA and community events.
  • Actively participate in business and/or industry associations.
  • Utilize internal and external learning opportunities.
  • Refine project management skills.
  • Serve as a mentor to multiple accounting staff members.
  • Expand services for existing clients.
  • Develop business consulting acumen.
  • Develop and present internal and external training, including writing articles.
  • Lead moderate to complex internal projects.
  • Network with COIs (Centers of Influence).
  • Achieve client retention targets.
  • Achieve new and existing cross-selling and upselling goals.
