About The Position

Nelnet Tax Credit Services (NTCS) is a nationally recognized solar tax credit investor, managing investments for itself and others, earning advisory and consulting fees, and co-developing solar projects. This role is responsible for the financial management and reporting of NTCS operations and investments, including tax credit compliance, investor relations, budgeting, forecasting, allocation, documentation, internal controls, process improvements, risk management, and team leadership.

Requirements

  • 4 year college degree in accounting or finance required.
  • 5+ years of experience in finance and/or accounting.
  • Prior leadership and supervisory experience required.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial, accounting, treasury and capital market activities.
  • Strong HLBV accounting knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while leading team members and working across the organization with colleagues to achieve results.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with ability to achieve goals.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for evaluating and implementing automation and new technologies.
  • Desire to continually learn in an every-changing environment.
  • Innovative to work within a regulated framework to create win/wins and value creation.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the propriety of accounting entries for tax credit investment portfolios in compliance with GAAP.
  • Manage accounting and financial statements for multiple legal entities, including intercompany transactions, minority interests, revenue recognition, and HLBV accounting.
  • Track and report on investment performance (ROI, IRR, NPV, etc.).
  • Coordinate and oversee financial statement audits and internal controls.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data related to tax credit investments.
  • Identify areas for process improvements in managing tax credit projects and investor reporting.
  • Assist team members with tax credit compliance and oversight of projects.
  • Ensure adherence to program-specific rules, maintain eligibility for tax credits, meet deadlines, and ensure proper documentation.
  • Work closely with legal and tax advisors to ensure proper structuring of investment and tax credit claims.
  • Prepare investor reports, providing timely and accurate updates on tax credit investments, including performance, projected returns, and compliance status.
  • Manage communication with investors, providing insights into the financial health and progress of their investments.
  • Coordinate the distribution of tax credits to investors, including all tax-related reporting and other disclosures.
  • Assist with the review of models and constructs to develop new products within the tax credit investment space.
  • Present summaries of new ideas, balancing risks and opportunities.
  • Analyze financial scenarios of various opportunities and business models.
  • Manage the budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting for NTCS division operations, including consulting and advisory fee revenue, project ownership, investment performance, and operating expenses.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, solar development partners, third-party investors, tax consultants, legal advisors, and internal teams to facilitate tax credit reporting and compliance.
  • Collaborate with accounting, finance, and project teams to ensure seamless execution of investment strategies.
  • Prepare and review cash flow and income statement forecasts.
  • Report historical results and future projections in a meaningful way, focusing on optimizing the business through key performance indicators, structural efficiencies, dashboards, and financial acumen.
  • Identify potential risks related to tax credit investments and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure all financial operations and transactions are legally compliant and consistent with investor agreements.
  • Lead, mentor, and provide guidance to junior accounting and finance staff within NTCS.
  • Stay updated on changes in GAAP provisions related to HLBV, VIE, proportional amortization, and minority interest accounting to ensure investment compliance.
