About The Position

As part of the Finance team, the Accounting Manager will report to the Director of Finance and Accounting. This role is a key member of the Finance team, responsible for managing and improving critical business functions within the accounting office. The Accounting Manager is responsible for the accurate recording of transactions into the organization's financial system and for day-to-day financial tasks, which include maintaining the integrity of the general ledger data, recording of journal entries, cash receipts, and providing general accounting support. The position will prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, as well as coordinating the organization's annual audit. This is an exempt, full-time position and requires a minimum of four (4) days per week in the office, on a schedule determined by the supervisor in the NYC headquarters office. The in-office requirement and schedule are subject to change based on the needs of the program and the organization.

Requirements

  • 6 years of professional nonprofit accounting experience with 2 years of team management experience.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience communicating and explaining complex financial information.
  • Experience manipulating, organizing, and presenting large amounts of data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Advanced skills in Excel required.
  • Experience with non-profit enterprise software, such as SAGE Intacct, Expensify, Workday, Financial Edge, or similar required.

Responsibilities

  • Review accounting team's journal entries and schedules for cash/investments, payroll/benefits, receivables, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, AP/accrued expenses, deferred income/refundable advances, contributions/grants, medical practice revenue, and intercompany transactions.
  • Prepare financial reports for month-end close (including combined financial statements)
  • Prepare cash flow forecasting and provide monthly detailed cash flow projections.
  • Analyze new contributions/grants to determine proper treatment in accordance with Not-For-Profit GAAP.
  • Prepare and maintain the Net Assets with Donor Restrictions release schedule, coordinating with the Sponsored Programs team as needed.
  • Act as a point of contact with external auditors and coordinate and/or prepare information and schedules for annual financial and uniform guidance audits and tax returns (Forms 990, CHAR500 and 1120).
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
