About The Position

The Old Globe, the Tony Award-winning regional theatre located in the heart of San Diego's beautiful Balboa Park, is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager for a full-time, benefited position. Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Finance, the Accounting Manager will play a key role in overseeing the financial operations of the organization, including managing the Theatre's $30 million annual operating budget. Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree, accounting or a related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and analysis within a similar industry or environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing accounting teams and overseeing daily accounting operations.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Ability to sit for extended time periods; hearing adequate to maintain conversations in person and over phone/video calls; vision adequate to read small text on paper and computers; able to quickly and accurately type and enter data on a computer keyboard.
  • Occasional light lifting up to 25lbs. required.
  • Must be able to pass applicable background check.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
  • Coordinate and complete annual audit, providing necessary documentation and information to auditors.
  • Update and document business processes and accounting policies as needed to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Analyze financial discrepancies and recommend effective resolutions.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
  • Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support overall department and company goals and objectives.
  • Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports or statements.
  • Provide leadership in accounting office to other staff and within the organization when needed and when Director of Finance is unavailable.
  • Other duties as assigned.
