About The Position

The primary purpose of this job position is to assist the Controller with all functions within the department, including preparing and recording general ledger entries, assisting in completing monthly financial packages for multiple facilities, overseeing the completeness and accuracy of balance sheet reconciliations, verifying accuracy and making recommendations for corrections in numerous types of reports, and supervising portions of the Accounting department. The role involves planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the facility's accounting functions under the supervision of the Controller. It also includes developing and maintaining written policies and procedures, reviewing them periodically, and making recommendations for changes. The Accounting Manager will assist in budget development, short-term projections, and analysis of revenue and expense trends, while also providing advice and assistance to staff accountants in interpreting financial data and reports. Ensuring accurate information is provided on a timely basis and assisting with external audits are key responsibilities. The position requires maintaining affiliation with professional organizations and attending continuing education classes. The Accounting Manager will also supervise finance staff, implement and interpret departmental programs, prepare financial and statistical reports, and assist in preparation for year-end audits and the yearly budget. Developing and maintaining good working rapport with inter-department personnel and participating in departmental meetings are also expected. The role requires adherence to policies and procedures regarding incident recording, filing, administrative studies, and conducting departmental performance evaluations. Confidentiality of resident care information, including protected health information, must be maintained, and any suspected or known violations must be reported.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Must have, as a minimum, 5 years' accounting experience.
  • Knowledge in clerical functions and computer literacy.
  • Proficiency in Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA certification preferred.
  • Previous management or supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and record general ledger entries for third-party contractual allowances and bad debt, and assist with other miscellaneous entries in preparation of month-end close for all entities.
  • Complete and ensure assigned general ledger accounts are reconciled monthly by the designated deadline.
  • Assist in the preparation of the monthly financial package, including schedules and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Monitor daily processes for capturing revenues and ensure all balancing requirements are met, notifying Department Directors when issues are identified.
  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the facility's accounting functions under the supervision of the Controller.
  • Develop and maintain written policies and procedures that govern the accounting functions of the facility.
  • Review the facility's accounting policies and procedures periodically (at least annually) and make recommendations to the Controller/Director of Finance.
  • Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Controller/Director of Finance concerning accounting functions.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of changes in the accounting system.
  • Assume administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability for directing the accounting functions and programs.
  • Provide back-up support in the department on an as-needed basis.
  • Assist in budget development, short-term projections, and analysis of revenue and expense trends.
  • Troubleshoot and correct weaknesses in accounting processes and controls.
  • Assist with contract management, identify payment terms, and opportunities for improvement, using contract management software to monitor expiration dates and terms.
  • Provide advice and assistance to staff accountants in analyzing and interpreting financial data and reports.
  • Ensure accurate information is provided on a timely basis and assist in facilitating the efficient conduct of external audits, examinations, and related financial projects.
  • Maintain affiliation with professional organizations and attend continuing education classes.
  • Assist the Controller with special projects and requests for data.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Supervise finance staff to ensure their work is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the department.
  • Prepare financial and statistical reports as required.
  • Assist in preparation for year-end audit.
  • Assist in preparation of the yearly budget.
  • Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-department personnel and other departments within the facility.
  • Schedule and participate in departmental meetings.
  • Assist in recording all incidents/accidents.
  • File in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Assist in administrative studies and projects as assigned or that may become necessary.
  • Conduct departmental performance evaluations in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Agree not to disclose resident's protected health information and promptly report suspected or known violations of such disclosure to the Administrator.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information, including protected health information.
  • Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information.
