Accounting Intern (Spring 2027)
About The Position
SVA is seeking an Accounting Intern for Spring 2027 to join their Accounting team in Brookfield, WI. This paid internship offers a valuable introduction to the accounting and business worlds, allowing collaboration with a diverse team of professionals at an independent, growing professional services firm certified as a Great Place to Work®. The internship provides hands-on experience in tax, audit/assurance, and management advisory services (MAS) during the busy season. Interns will assist with data analysis, financial report preparation, and various accounting activities, performing duties similar to an entry-level staff accountant. They will be considered full members of the SVA team, receive comprehensive training, and be paired with a People Leader for guidance and progress reviews, with a Buddy assigned for onboarding. Interns may indirectly work with clients under supervision. Opportunities for networking with other students and staff through social events, open seating, and on-site continuing education are also provided. The goal is to offer an ultimate internship experience that may lead to full-time employment with SVA.
Requirements
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field
- A minimum of 3 years college experience preferred
Responsibilities
- Prepare individual, partnership, S-Corp and C-Corp business tax returns
- Prepare tax return extensions
- Assist in the preparation of Form 1099 informational returns for clients
- Update and maintain fixed asset reports
- Analyze client financial statements and records to prepare book to tax income reconciliations
- Prepare adjusting journal entries
- Work with in-charges to complete assigned audits, reviews, and compilations
- Prepare simple financial statements
- Prepare analytic workpapers to identify trends
- Create property and equipment schedules and calculate depreciation and amortization
- Participate in and observe inventory counts
- Post journal entries and adjustments to working trial balance
- Prepare accounting adjustments, bank reconciliations, and financial reports
- Gain experience in various accounting software
- Assist in the preparation of complex Excel spreadsheets for use in valuations and data analytics
- Assist in the preparation of special accounting projects
