About The Position

As the Accounting Intern, you will play a valuable role in the finance operations of the foundation. This role will be a key support to the accounts payable and month-end processes. You are eager to learn about what it looks like to be a part of a small accounting team with robust procedures and strong audit controls. It is essential that the Accounting Intern has a collaborative and clear communication style, loves to work alongside a team, and is comfortable managing multiple deadlines. This role is sponsored through Riipen, and therefore must meet all criteria as outlined by Riipen.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a relevant Canadian post-secondary institution, preferably with a focus in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting, or currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration; programs must be 2 years or longer.
  • Must be in the final 50% of an undergraduate program, or enrolled in a Masters, PhD, or equivalent graduate program.
  • Must meet all Riipen’s hiring requirements
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong desire to learn and have a willingness to ask questions
  • Proficient in excel, word, and outlook
  • Possess strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills
  • A high degree of integrity and ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in an evolving environment

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working in accounting is an asset
  • Interested in working towards the CPA program upon graduation is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Supporting accounts payable and out of pocket expense (OOP) processes, including reviewing and setting up new vendors and their payments as well as reviewing contracts
  • Verifying EFT and bank information with new vendors over the phone and entering banking information into Plooto
  • Supporting monthly credit card process, including reviewing travel approval forms, invoices, and expense policies related to spend
  • Assisting the accounting team with reconciliations as required
  • Prepare journal entries as required
  • Supporting the Intermediate Accountant with the accounting inbox as required
  • Supporting with weekly bank deposit process in office
  • Digitize and classify historical physical/electronic finance/admin and related records onto SharePoint
  • Supporting in updating records and process docs where applicable
  • Other ad-hoc projects as required
