About The Position

This is a paid internship opportunity for a student pursuing a BS in Accounting to gain practical work experience. The agency has a long-standing partnership with local universities, helping candidates develop their professional careers. College course credit may be available. The position is located conveniently near East Tennessee State University and Milligan University. The role involves general accounting functions, including accounts payable, inventory control, preparing spreadsheets, and financial reports. It also supports management decision-making by analyzing financial conditions and serves as backup for daily money receipts.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of accounting theories and practices.
  • Knowledge of personal computers and accounting systems.
  • Working toward completion of at least 2 years of college or an Associate’s degree required.
  • Regular attendance is a primary and essential job function.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in governmental accounting is a plus.
  • Degree in accounting, financial planning or related field from an accredited college is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare vouchers, checking receipts for accuracy, and maintaining files for revolving charges.
  • Properly allocate and split expenses, check for non-compliance, and verify signatures.
  • Assign and track Purchase Orders.
  • Assist periodically with bank reconciliations and journal entries for major agency programs.
  • Enter and post Foster Grandparent vouchers to the general ledger.
  • Maintain a current database of Foster Grandparent clients' names and addresses.
  • Print reimbursement checks and all backup and ledger reports.
  • Prepare vouchers for cost reporting of fringe benefits, TCRS reports, and Insurance reports.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Abide by FTHRA’s Personnel Rules and Regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
