About The Position

To be considered for this employment opportunity you must submit a complete application package by 4:30 p.m. on December 5, 2025 DEFINITION Perform a variety of accounting clerical duties involving financial record keeping and/or transactions including accounts receivable and accounts payable; respond to requests and inquiries; and perform related work as required. CLASS CHARACTERISTICS Under supervision to perform support duties for the Accounting staff. Incumbents report to and take directions from the Senior Accountant. Incumbents receive thorough instructions when tasks are initially assigned and after training are expected to perform duties without constant supervision. Work is reviewed periodically upon completion and while in progress. Incumbents are expected to refer most variations in work to their supervisor for instructions.

Requirements

  • Business Administration student with an accounting option or in a closely related accounting field with a 3.00 GPA minimum from an accredited college or university
  • Preferably a Junior standing or (completing last semester of Sophomore studies) from an accredited college or university
  • Completion of Accounting 4A & 4B (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university
  • Completion of, or currently enrolled in, Intermediate Accounting 120A (or equivalent) or FIN 120 (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university.
  • Knowledge of: English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation
  • Knowledge of: Basic accounting and bookkeeping procedures
  • Knowledge of: Methods, practices, and terminology used in financial and statistical record keeping
  • Knowledge of: Modern office methods and procedures
  • Knowledge of: Filing systems and procedures
  • Knowledge of: Appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
  • Ability to: Perform accounting clerical work
  • Ability to: Process and maintain financial and statistical records
  • Ability to: Operate a computer and standard office equipment accurately and efficiently
  • Ability to: Understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Ability to: Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
  • Ability to: Write legibly
  • Ability to: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of assigned duties.

Responsibilities

  • Post data to various ledgers, registers, journals, and logs according to established account classifications and procedures
  • Write and post journal entries
  • Perform monthly reconciliations
  • Gather, tabulate, and proofread statistical or financial data
  • Accept and/or verify collections, receipts, and other financial data
  • Perform a variety of general clerical duties including maintaining files and records
  • Operate basic business equipment and a personal computer utilizing Microsoft products and the City's financial system
  • Perform related work as required.
