Accounting & Finance Intern - (Baton Rouge, LA)
About The Position
Bascom Hunter is seeking an Accounting & Finance Intern to support financial reporting, accounting activities, budgeting, analysis, and other business operations within our growing aerospace and defense company. This position provides hands-on experience working with financial information and processes that support both day-to-day operations and long-term business growth. The intern will work closely with the accounting and finance team and gain exposure to a variety of activities, including financial analysis, reporting, budgeting, reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, and project-related financial data. Bascom Hunter provides custom solutions to the Department of Defense and aerospace markets, with capabilities spanning advanced electronics, communications, RF systems, environmental control, thermal management, power, and other mission-critical technologies. The internship provides the opportunity to gain hands-on accounting and financial experience while learning how financial operations support engineering, manufacturing, government contracting, and business growth within the aerospace and defense industry.
Requirements
- Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of accounting and financial principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to handle financial and business information with appropriate confidentiality.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Nice To Haves
- Coursework or experience in financial accounting, managerial accounting, corporate finance, or financial analysis.
- Intermediate or advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Familiarity with accounting or ERP software.
- Experience working with financial data, reporting, or reconciliations.
- Interest in government contracting, aerospace and defense, or project-based accounting.
- Familiarity with cost accounting or project accounting concepts.
- Previous internship, work experience, or relevant academic project experience.
Responsibilities
- Assist with general accounting and financial reporting activities.
- Support the preparation and analysis of financial reports, schedules, and supporting documentation.
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Support account reconciliations and help identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Collect, organize, and analyze financial and operational data to support business decisions.
- Assist with tracking project costs, expenses, and other financial information.
- Support month-end and year-end accounting activities as needed.
- Assist with maintaining accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
- Develop and maintain spreadsheets, reports, and financial analyses.
- Assist with data entry, validation, and organization within accounting and financial systems.
- Support internal and external audit preparation by organizing documentation and financial records.
- Assist with process improvement initiatives related to accounting, reporting, and financial operations.
- Collaborate with accounting, finance, operations, program management, and other functional teams.
- Perform additional accounting and financial analysis projects as assigned.
