About The Position

The Accounting Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the financial accounting system and other related sub-ledger systems, reconciling accounts, preparing reports, statements, and year end working papers for the City of Woodstock, Woodstock Library, Woodstock Police Services, Woodstock Fire Department, and the Woodstock BIA.

Requirements

  • University degree in accounting or business administration, with four (4) to six (6) years related experience.
  • Experience with year-end transactions, audit working papers, and supporting schedules.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to liaise with various city departments and suppliers.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP, Diamond, ADP Workforce Suite, ADP Workforce Now software considered an asset.
  • Understanding of accounting practices and concepts, preferably in a municipal environment.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the bi-weekly payroll process
  • Required to meet all payroll deadlines and financial reporting deadlines
  • Provide assistance to the Accounting and Payroll Analyst related to multiple collective agreements
  • Knowledge of OMERS, CRA requirements, WSIB & EHT including reporting requirements
  • Knowledge of ESA statutory holiday and vacation pay
  • Manage various online and counter cash receipts
  • Prepare journal entries to ensure accurate financial data
  • Support the Accounting Analyst for the maintenance of Reserve and Reserve Fund Information
  • Prepare Month End statements and quarterly Council reports
  • Participate in and support the City’s budget process
  • Assist with year-end reporting including preparation of working papers and year end journal entries, trial balances and others
  • Analyze processes to identify and recommend areas of improvement
  • Assist with new software implementations
  • Act as a resource and provide training to staff on financial systems
  • Undertake financial analyses for various activities
  • Act as a resource and provides training to staff on the e-timecard system
  • Act as backup to the Deputy Treasurer, Accounting Coordinator (A/P & A/R) and Manager of Finance
  • Adapt processes and reporting procedures to mandated legislative & policy changes
  • Attend Council meetings as required
  • Other duties as assigned
