Accounting Clerk – Manufacturing Operations

About The Position

Silgan Containers is seeking an Accounting Clerk for our manufacturing accounting, production reporting, and inventory processes at our Fort Dodge, Iowa, facility. This manufacturing accounting role is accountable for production reporting, inventory management, billing, accounts receivable, and clerical accounting tasks in a fast‑paced, union manufacturing environment. The Accounting Clerk reports to the Plant Controller and works closely with the production, shipping, receiving, and plant accounting teams to ensure accurate production data, inventory records, and financial transactions that back manufacturing operations.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field
  • Minimum of one year of accounting experience or related experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong attention to detail with effective time‑management skills
  • Ability to operate 10‑key calculators and standard office equipment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including advanced Excel skills
  • Experience using integrated ERP systems such as Oracle, SAP, or JD Edwards
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Self‑motivated work style with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Flexibility to work additional hours as needed to help with workload and production deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Input production and material usage data into the ERP system using Manufacturing Order (MO) paperwork
  • Audit MO paperwork for accuracy and reasonableness, explain variances from key production metrics, and reinforce training on correct documentation procedures
  • Process daily customer billing and customer invoices
  • Enter, audit, and manage inventory adjustments resulting from cycle counts
  • Perform clerical accounting duties requiring knowledge of accounting office practices and accounting classifications
  • Interact with multiple departments to gather accounting data and assist with issue resolution
  • Back up accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing activities, special projects, and other accounting duties in a small manufacturing accounting department
  • Perform daily administrative tasks, including filing, scanning, copying, maintaining records, and processing documentation
  • Complete additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned
