About The Position

Formic is seeking an Accounting & Audit Consultant to play a critical role during a pivotal stage of the company’s growth and evolution. As Formic continues to scale, we are strengthening our accounting infrastructure, formalizing processes, and preparing the organization for its first financial audit. This role will be at the center of that effort. As part of the Finance and Accounting team, you will help drive audit readiness, support the company through its first audit, prepare for future audit cycles, and strengthen the month-end close process. This is a highly visible, hands-on opportunity to make a lasting impact on how accounting and financial operations are built and scaled at Formic. This is a 6-month contract position, starting immediately through the end of the year. We're looking for someone who thrives in fast-paced, high-growth environments and enjoys building structure where it doesn't yet exist. This role requires a blend of strong technical accounting expertise, practical judgment, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves. You will work across audit preparation, financial reporting, reconciliations, documentation, and process design—helping establish the foundational accounting practices that will support Formic's next phase of growth. The ideal candidate brings prior audit experience and is comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy. You have experience navigating ambiguity, creating processes from the ground up, and helping organizations mature their accounting and compliance capabilities. You're equally comfortable tackling detailed accounting work and driving broader process improvements, and you bring a collaborative, low-ego approach to solving problems and getting work done.

  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and core accounting concepts
  • Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills, including comfort working with supporting schedules and account reconciliations
  • Ability to operate independently, manage multiple priorities, and drive work to completion
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and follow-through
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and project management skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Local to greater Chicago / Bolingbrook (with ability to work 3+ days/week in Bolingbrook)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with NetSuite, Xero, or similar accounting systems

  • Experience creating accounting policies, procedures, and documentation from the ground up
  • Experience building and scaling accounting processes in a high-growth or rapidly evolving environment
