About The Position

Functioning for 70 years, the Housing Authority of Joliet (HAJ) has been at the forefront and steadfastly committed to bringing exceptional housing services and programs to the people of the City of Joliet, and surrounding Will County communities. We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Assistant to support our accounting team. This role will primarily focus on processing accounts payable transactions. Initial 2 month contract with a high likelihood of extension or conversion to permanent employment, including expanded duties.

Requirements

  • Prior accounts payable or general accounting experience preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems (experience with Yardi is a plus)
  • Strong communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Process high-volume vendor invoices accurately and timely
  • Review, code, and enter invoices into the accounting system
  • Prepare and assist with check runs and electronic payments
  • Maintain vendor records and assist with W-9/1099 tracking
  • Respond to vendor inquiries and resolve discrepancies
  • Assist with account reconciliations and month-end close tasks
  • Support additional accounting functions as responsibilities expand
  • Entering journal entries
  • Maintaining and creating schedules (fixed assets, prepaid expenses, intercompany)
  • Posting Charges
  • Creating receipts
  • Bank reconciliations
