About The Position

An Accounting Assistant III prepares financial statements and records, examines accounts and records for compliance with accounting procedures, adjusts a variety of accounts and performs a wide range of specialized calculation and analysis work. The work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in an office where working conditions are normal. The work requires minimal physical exertion.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
  • Five years of experience in bookkeeping or in reconciling payroll journals and records.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of bookkeeping.
  • Knowledge of standard payroll practices, systems, terminology and procedures.
  • Skill in performing data evaluation, analysis calculation and processing.
  • Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to maintain a wide variety of accounts.
  • Ability to deal courteously with other employees and the public.
  • Ability to conduct research and to resolve inquiries and problems.
  • Ability to prepare financial reports.
  • Ability to make adjustments to a variety of accounts.
  • Ability to recommend modifications in bookkeeping and accounting procedures.
  • Authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
  • Completion of a mandatory six-month's probation.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of two years of college in accounting may be substituted for the experience requirement.
