About The Position

An Accounting and Billing Manager at a law firm directs the financial operations related to client billing, accounts receivable, and general accounting. They oversee the billing cycle from pre-bills to final invoices, enforce client billing guidelines, and ensure strict compliance with trust accounting and state bar regulations.

Requirements

  • 3 to 5+ years of law firm accounting/professional organization or legal billing experience, with prior management responsibilities.
  • Advanced knowledge of legal accounting software (e.g., Aderant, Elite, Clio, QuickBooks) and electronic billing platforms.
  • Exceptional diplomacy and tact when communicating with demanding partners, clients, and firm stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end billing cycle, including hourly, contingency, flat-fee, and alternative fee arrangements.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of electronic invoices through platforms like Legal Tracker, CounselLink, and TyMetrix.
  • Ensure compliance with IOLTA (Interest on Lawyers' Trust Accounts) rules and ethical standards.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate billing coordinators and accounting staff.
  • Analyze Work-In-Process (WIP), realization rates, and Accounts Receivable (A/R), providing detailed reports to firm leadership.
  • Work alongside partners and clients to resolve outstanding balances and reduce unbilled time.
