The Accountant performs a variety of professional-level accounting functions related to the preparation and maintenance of financial records, the audit of financial transactions, and the production of reports and statements. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or closely related field
  • One (1) year of professional-level financial, accounting, or auditing experience
  • Other combinations of post-secondary education and related experience in financial, accounting, or auditing may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis.
  • Knowledge of: Generally accepted accounting procedures and principles (GAAP) and generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS), financial analysis techniques and practices.
  • Minimum accounting standards (MAS) for Arizona Courts.
  • Accounting, budgetary, and management principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Skill in: The use of computer applications for accounting systems.
  • The use of Microsoft Office software, with an emphasis on Excel.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel to include lookup functions such as XLOOKUP and INDEX MATCH, pivot tables, and formula-based analysis.
  • Implementing accounting and auditing operating procedures that align with Judicial Branch policy, applicable laws and regulations, established accounting standards, and the requirements of the Arizona Administrative Office of the Courts Minimum Accounting Standards.
  • Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
  • Time management, setting priorities, and completing assignments on time.
  • Ability to: Communicate effectively and work well with judicial officers, Judicial Branch staff, and the public.
  • Promote a positive work environment with management, staff, and peers.
  • Apply accounting theory in a governmental work environment.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Ensure efficiencies in processes while maintaining compliance with laws, regulations, policies, and current practices.
  • Audit work of staff to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting procedures and principles (GAAP) and minimum accounting standards (MAS).
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, and annual reports for grant managers and grantors in compliance with various deadlines.
  • Prepare and process Journal Vouchers.
  • Conduct audits of financial transactions, procurement activities, and operational processes to ensure compliance with established policies and regulations.
  • Review and analyze financial data and supporting documentation to identify discrepancies, irregularities, and areas of improvement.
  • Prepare detailed audit reports and summaries to communicate findings and recommendations to management.
  • Monitor and reconcile financial records and operational data to maintain accuracy and integrity.
  • Assist with periodic and year-end audits by compiling, verifying, and reconciling financial information.
  • Support internal control initiatives by evaluating compliance and recommending corrective actions where necessary.
  • Coordinate with staff, internal and external departments to resolve audit findings and implement corrective measures.
  • Maintain audit tracking systems and documentation to ensure timely completion and reporting of audit activities.
  • Provide guidance on compliance requirements and financial procedures to promote adherence to internal and external regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain statistical and financial reports to support audit planning, risk assessment, and decision making.
  • Input capital asset acquisitions, modifications, and dispositions into the financial system.
  • Utilize multiple information systems to access financial information.
  • Generate ad-hoc and new reports as requested by supervisor.
  • Act as a liaison between internal/external audit staff, the Judicial Branch, and the Arizona Office of the Courts.
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers in person, by telephone, by email, via written correspondence, and through Microsoft Teams.
  • Other duties as assigned.
