About The Position

Steinbach Credit Union (SCU) is seeking an Accountant to join their Finance team. This role supports full-cycle accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, and audit activities for SCU and its subsidiaries. The Accountant will contribute to accurate financial information, effective internal reporting, and sound accounting practices across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of accounting or financial reporting experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Experience with account reconciliations and financial analysis.
  • Proficiency in accounting systems and advanced Excel functions.
  • Knowledge of corporate tax requirements (GST/HST, RST).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA designation, or active progress toward obtaining a CPA designation, is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the monthly financial reporting process, including consolidated and departmental reporting, variance analysis, and supporting financial insights.
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, working papers, and other general accounting activities.
  • Support full-cycle accounting processes to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
  • Prepare and analyze financial data and reports to support business and operational decision-making.
  • Assist with the annual budgeting and business planning process, including supporting departmental budget development.
  • Complete ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as required.
  • Support compliance with tax regulations and filing requirements for SCU and its subsidiaries.
  • Assist with regulatory reporting and compliance requirements for Credit Union regulators and other governing bodies.
  • Support year-end financial statement preparation, external audit activities, and the development of the Annual Report.
  • Maintain compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and operational efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with leaders and departments across the organization to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting needs.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure accurate and value-added financial information.
  • Participate in team meetings, departmental initiatives, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Maintain knowledge of SCU's products, services, business operations, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, service-focused culture that supports departmental and organizational goals.
