About The Position

Premera's corporate finance department ensures the Company’s financial information and reporting is accurate and complete and currently has an Accountant opening! This advanced professional has primary responsibility for determining appropriate accounting for the diverse business transactions for the operations of the Premera group of companies. He/she provides technical consultation for multi-company accounting functions for Premera Blue Cross and its subsidiaries, a $3 billion group of companies. Accountabilities require accounting knowledge, strong analytical capabilities to solve problems and strong technology skills to continuously improve accuracy, workload capacity and process efficiency. He/she exhibits a commitment to our customers by demonstrating excellence, initiative, innovation, adaptability, and teamwork. Primary responsibilities will include coordination and hands-on support with: General Accounting Support, GAAP and Statutory-Regulatory Reporting, Tax, coordination with Internal & External Auditors, including coordination with OIC (Office of the Insurance Commissioner), and Accounting Process Automation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or (4) years' experience in accounting or related field.
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
  • Corporate Tax exposure, knowledge, and filing experience.
  • Experience working with Workday or a similar application.
  • Health insurance experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, analyze and interpret complex accounting data.
  • Responsible for monthly close processes including journal entries, reconciliations and variance analyses.
  • Research and analyze complex business transactions to determine the appropriate accounting and procedures.
  • Analyze financial information, accounting processes and issues, prepare conclusions and recommendations, and implement solutions.
  • Represent Finance on cross-departmental projects.
  • Collaborates with external auditors on annual Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) audit to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Work with and provide direction to various departments throughout the company on accounting related matters.
  • Take the lead to challenge convention and improve processes and/or gain efficiencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
