About The Position

As a member of our accounting team, the Accountant is responsible for managing high-risk accounts in the financials. This position also requires providing support for the month end close process including pre-close analysis, monthly close, and post close processes. The individual in this position will work closely with the Accounting Manager and other personnel in the Wolseley finance team located in Burlington Ontario.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and plans to or is in pursuit of a CPA designation.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in Accounting or Finance
  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP
  • Strong analytical skills required with the ability to perform complex account reconciliations.
  • Advanced level Excel skills (pivots, v-lookups, and advanced formulas)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Strong time management skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be a team player with excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of AS4000 and Oracle ERP considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of assigned GL accounts and ensure accuracy, understanding, and consistency of application and compliance with GAAP.
  • Responsible for performing various month end/quarter end close activities to meet accounting close deadlines. These include, but are not limited to, journal entry preparation and submission and preparation of appropriate support.
  • Reconcile and maintain the integrity of the assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Works closely with the Accounting Manager to identify process gaps and assist with meeting SOX compliance requirements for all accounting functions.
  • Makes recommendations for process improvement as identified from compliance report or from interaction with team members.
  • Assists with development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for accounting tasks to have available documents that may be used for cross training or new hires.
  • Provide ad-hoc support for projects and initiatives.
  • Other duties as required.
