About The Position

The Accountant supports the financial operations of the Council be performing day-to-day accounting functions, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards. This position plays a critical role in supporting the Finance Department with timely and accurate processing of transactions, reconciliations, and reporting. At Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri, most of our roles work in a hybrid capacity (in office, remote, and/or in the field). Details will be provided during the interview process. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Three (3) years of accounting experience.
  • Valid state driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a driving record that is acceptable to our insurance carrier.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting principles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, integrated financial systems, and other general office equipment.
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort working with financial data.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate complex data.
  • Organized thinker with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with integrity.
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, dynamic organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a non-profit environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Process accounts receivable transactions, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.
  • Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with GAAP and fund accounting principles.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit card statements, and other financial records on a monthly basis.
  • Maintain general ledger accounts and assist with month-end and year-end close procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation of internal financial reports and external grant reporting.
  • Track restricted and unrestricted funds to ensure proper allocation of expenses.
  • Maintain organized and accurate financial files and records.
  • Assist with the annual audit and tax filings by providing necessary documentation and support.
  • Contribute to process improvement and internal controls within the finance function.
  • Maintain the fixed assets listing and record transactions related to purchases, sales, and depreciation.
  • Serve as a collaborative team member, working to advance the mission of Girl Scouts.
  • Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
