About The Position

South Shore Insurance Underwriters (SSIU) is looking for a detail-oriented and dependable Accountant to join our growing Accounting team. This is a newly created position that will provide additional support across our accounts receivable and accounts payable functions while also contributing to month-end close and other accounting activities. If you enjoy owning your work, staying organized, and contributing to a fast-moving, collaborative team, this role is for you.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (strongly preferred)
  • Experience in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Open to recent graduates
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Ability to adapt as priorities and workloads change
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general accounting systems

Nice To Haves

  • Insurance or MGA experience is a plus but not required

Responsibilities

  • Receive, record, and accurately apply incoming payments
  • Maintain accurate accounts receivable records and assist with researching and resolving outstanding or unapplied balances
  • Process vendor invoices and payments and maintain accurate accounts payable records
  • Assist with account reconciliations and research discrepancies as needed
  • Support month-end closing activities, including preparation of schedules, reconciliations, and other supporting documentation
  • Assist with maintaining accurate financial records and appropriate supporting documentation
  • Work with other members of the Accounting team to identify and resolve accounting discrepancies
  • Collaborate with departments across the organization to ensure financial transactions are processed accurately and timely
  • Provide cross-functional support within the Accounting department as business needs and priorities change
  • Assist with special projects and process improvements as opportunities arise
