About The Position

The Lawrenceville Correctional Center is seeking an Accountant Senior to join their team. This role is part of the Financial Services Spec I classification and operates within Pay Band 4. The position involves significant responsibilities in financial management, including supervision of accounting staff, processing and submitting financial reports, and performing fiscal management duties. The Accountant Senior will report to the Business Manager and play a key role in ensuring compliance with accounting principles and agency policies.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices including cost accounting.
  • Demonstrated ability to assemble, analyze, and prepare financial reports, statements, and other documents.
  • Advanced skill in the use of financial data processing techniques and Microsoft Office to include Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply and adapt established accounting methods to a variety of financial transactions and records.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare financial reports and statements.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, train and direct the work of supporting staff.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Advance Knowledge in accounting, a related field or equivalent applicable experience or training.
  • Experience with eVA and/or Cardinal.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and reviews the work of the Business Office Accountant and the Warehouse Manager.
  • Advises staff on appropriate accounting practices and ensures compliance with DOC, DOA, APA, and Internal Auditing policies and procedures.
  • Provides guidance to the Fiscal Technician Senior in areas of FAACS, Surplus, Disposals, Records Retention, Technology and Procurement.
  • Acts as backup in absence of Business Office staff and cosigns on checks for Inmate Trust and Commissary.
  • Processes and submits reports to other DOC Departments and to outside agencies.
  • Reviews the agency’s reports to Cardinal monthly for appropriations, revenue and expenditures.
  • Reviews Travel documents as needed and makes adjusting entries to Cardinal.
  • Reviews the agency’s Commissary Report and ensures timely completion and submission of all reports.
  • Compiles information requested by other institutional departments for reporting purposes.
  • Ensures that ACA folders are maintained and updated quarterly.
  • Assists the Business Manager with the supervision and operation of procurement, warehouse, and commissary functions as required.
  • Acts as Designee for Business Manager as needed.
  • Confers with and makes recommendations to Business Manager on accounting and fiscal problems and procedures.
  • Discusses inmate related fiscal problems with appropriate staff.
  • Performs Commissary Accounting and FAACS release functions.
  • Assists Business Manager in conducting and valuation of the yearly Materials and Supplies Inventory.
  • Responds to instructions and feedback of supervisors in a constructive manner.
  • Engages in constructive dialogue with supervisors.
  • Relates instructions and feedback of supervisors to personal knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Acknowledges and follows through on coaching and/or instruction related to performance correction, enhancement, and/or development.
  • Completes additional assignments and duties as assigned to ensure smooth operation of the work unit and agency.
  • Provides day to day supervision of staff in a constructive manner.
  • Communicates expectations of staff clearly and relates them to the goals and objectives of the department or unit.
  • Ensures staff receives frequent, constructive feedback, including interim evaluations as appropriate.
  • Ensures staff has the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to accomplish goals.
  • Ensures that the requirements of the performance planning and evaluation system are met and evaluations are completed by established deadlines with proper documentation.
  • Addresses and documents performance issues as they occur.
  • Ensures safety issues are reviewed and communicated to maintain a safe and healthy workplace resulting in a reduction in work related injuries.
