About The Position

Entry-level professional accounting work in the maintenance and review of fiscal records. Performs professional accounting work involving accounts receivable, travel administration, financial reporting, reconciliations, and other accounting functions as assigned. Work is performed under general supervision with considerable independence in the performance of routine tasks. Employees of this class also may assist higher-level accountants with more complex accounting functions and problems. Must be able to communicate and interact with other employees, supervisors, and individuals from other organizations in an effective and respectful manner. Performance is evaluated through review by the Accounting Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience beyond a high school diploma and at least one (1) year of experience in Accounting and working toward a degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
  • Must be able to work in a mainframe environment
  • Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and work well under time constraints.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with employees, supervisors, other departments, city officials, external auditors, and the public.
  • Must possess a valid state of Florida driver’s license.
  • Must possess excellent financial credit.
  • Must pass a background screening process.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Naviline accounting system products is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform miscellaneous accounts receivable functions, including billing, collections, account analysis, and customer account maintenance.
  • Administer, review, and monitor employee travel requests, reimbursements, and compliance with City travel policies and guidelines.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries.
  • Prepare account reconciliations and perform account analysis.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial reports and supporting schedules.
  • Assist with financial analysis, as assigned.
  • Research accounting issues and provide supporting documentation as needed.
  • Act as backup for other Finance and Budget Department staff in their absence, as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as required or directed by Supervisors.
