Accountant I Location: Colorado Springs, CO (United States Air Force Academy) Type: Non-Exempt Work Schedule: Full Time. On-call work may also be required based on operational needs. Tessera is seeking a dedicated, detail-driven, and mission-minded Accountant I to support the Base Maintenance Contract (BMC) at the U.S. Air Force Academy. The Accountant I role at Tessera supports operations through accurate financial management , subcontract coordination, and compliance oversight. This position is critical for maintaining smooth operations through precise accounting practices, timely processing of payments and subcontractor invoices, effective support of financial processes, and adherence to contract and subcontract requirements. The role also provides essential support in payroll, reporting, onboarding coordination, audit preparation, and documentation management, contributing to the overall success, accountability, and operational integrity of the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting , Finance, or related field preferred .
  • 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in facilities maintenance or federal contracting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.); experience with Maximo preferred .
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of GAAP and federal acquisition regulations (FAR) .
  • Ability to interpret legal and financial documents.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills .
  • Experience with subcontractor oversight and contract compliance.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • A valid state driver’s license is with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera’s insurance.
  • Access to a federal military installation requires a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or an acceptable alternative, such as a U.S. passport or military ID, in accordance with the REAL ID Act.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access.
  • A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position .

Responsibilities

  • Prepare journal entries and reconcile bank and ledger accounts.
  • Process accounts payable and subcontractor invoices in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain financial data in Maximo and other systems; ensure alignment with contract requirements.
  • Assist with monthly closings and financial reporting.
  • Track preventive maintenance payments and credit card receipts.
  • Support payroll administration and employee license tracking.
  • Maintain base access documentation and credentialing for subcontractors.
  • Coordinate subcontractor onboarding, compliance tracking, and required documentation to ensure adherence to contract and site requirements .
  • Serve as a facilitator between subcontractors and site management regarding access requirements, scheduling coordination , and contract-related communications.
  • Support special projects, audits, and workflow improvements.
  • Reconcile general ledger discrepancies and ensure accurate financial records.
  • Prepare and maintain supporting documentation for applicable audits .
  • Monitor expenditures and assist with budget tracking and forecasting activities.
  • Review/verify invoices, expense reports, etc.
  • Generate financial reports for management review and/or analysis.
  • All other duties as assigned .
