About The Position

Prepares monthly and weekly accounting reports, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. This role involves preparing monthly board reports, reconciling general ledger accounts, maintaining monthly accruals and pre-paids, and recording/reconciling fixed asset schedules and related depreciation. The Accountant I will also provide general support to other areas of the Accounting Department as necessary, maintain confidentiality of sensitive Bank information, and foster a positive and caring atmosphere for customers and employees. The position requires enthusiastic, professional, and courteous service, proactive team participation, and adherence to all Southside Bank policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and anti-money laundering laws.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration.
  • Excellent analytical skills, including ability to read, analyze and interpret business periodicals; comprehend technical procedures, government regulations and reports; and apply the information as needed to rectify negative situations for the financial institution.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
  • Basic personal computer skills including electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with fingers.
  • Works with fingers and perceives attributes of objects and materials.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 90% of the time.
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to visit other offices, conference rooms, office machinery, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and telephone.
  • Constantly positions self to operate on a computer.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with other people throughout each day.
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information when conversing.

  • A minimum of one to two years of accounting and financial work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares monthly board reports.

  • Provides general support to other areas of the Accounting Department as necessary.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all sensitive Bank information.

  • Responsible for complying with audit policies and procedures as they pertain to this position.
  • Performs duties in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and related anti-money laundering laws, and in accordance with the Bank’s Information Security Program.
  • Maintains accounting controls by following procedures and substantiate financial transactions with proper documentation.
  • Complies with all safety policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.
  • Performs additional duties, as assigned or directed.
