About The Position

This is an entry-level accounting position ideal for someone early in their career who wants hands-on experience across core accounting functions. In this role, you’ll support day-to-day financial operations, help maintain accurate records, and assist with financial reporting and analysis. You’ll work closely with internal teams and vendors while building a strong foundation in accounting processes and systems. CIS is a member-owned risk-sharing organization (risk pool) that serves local governments in Oregon, including cities and counties. Requirements

  • Associate degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • 1–3 years of relevant accounting or finance experience
  • Basic knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Solid math and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in spreadsheets (Excel) and accounting systems
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Support key accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities
  • Perform account reconciliations and prepare journal entries
  • Assist with financial reporting, audit preparation, and annual financial statements
  • Review financial transactions for accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and policies
  • Process payments and maintain accurate vendor records, including W-9s and 1099 tracking
  • Respond to vendor and internal inquiries regarding invoices and payment status
  • Help monitor department budgets and ensure accurate financial tracking
  • Provide backup support for payroll, accounts receivable, and other finance functions
  • Assist with improving processes and strengthening internal controls
