About The Position

Under general supervision, the incumbent must exercise reasonable initiative and independent judgement in ensuring that timely, efficient, and effective services are provided to departments, selecting work methods, and performing assigned tasks. Work is reviewed through oral and written reports, discussion, and results obtained. This position provides essential accounting support by reviewing and analyzing financial data, preparing reconciliations, and assisting with the preparation of financial reports and special projects. This role is responsible for monitoring funding sources, preparing schedules for external audits, and supporting grant and cash management activities.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of computer systems pertaining to accounting and financial management.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting systems.
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and financial reporting systems.
  • Knowledge of electronic spreadsheets and other computerized financial reporting tools.
  • Ability to design, prepare, and maintain understandable spreadsheets.
  • Ability to plan, organize, generate, and present specialized financial and statistical written reports.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and discern underlying problems.
  • Ability to organize and evaluate financial data and develop logical conclusions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Graduation from an accredited college with an associate’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, financial management or a related field.
  • Two years of professional accounting and financial reporting experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver License and be insurable by the City’s current insurance provider.
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) training will be required according to the job duties and responsibilities within one (1) year of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • One year experience in local government finance, preferred.
  • A combination of education, training, and experience may be substituted at the City Manager’s discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and analyzes accounts and prepares reconciliations of various funds and accounts.
  • Analyzes financial data and monthly financial reports.
  • Monitors and maintains spreadsheets related to funding sources budgeted and transferred.
  • Assists in the preparation of and completion of a variety of accounting and financial reports or projects, including special projects.
  • Prepares and maintains records associated with various cash management and grant management activities.
  • Prepares schedules and reports for the external auditors.
  • Assists with projecting revenues and expenditures for budget.
  • Assists with preparation of financial trend analysis.
  • Prepares and reviews general correspondence.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.
