About The Position

The City of Redding is accepting applications for the position of Accountant. There is currently one full time Accountant I/II vacancy in the Finance Department. Accountant positions perform work at varying levels of complexity: Accountant I ($5,436.00 - $7.649.00 monthly) - performs accounting, auditing, and financial work; prepares a variety of accounting, statistical, and narrative reports and performs related work as required and/or assigned. Accountant II ($6,264.00 - $8,814.00 monthly) - performs complex accounting, auditing and financial work; reviews, revises accounting procedures; performs special accounting studies; prepares and analyzes financial statements.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles, theories, and procedures, cost accounting principles and systems, principles of business management, and data processing systems.
  • Ability to interact effectively with the public and city employees
  • Ability to maintain and analyze ledgers
  • Ability to design and implement special audit procedures
  • Ability to analyze accounting data
  • Ability to define conclusions and develop recommendations
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive and technically correct accounting reports and financial statements; operate a personal computer for various financial applications.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college, university, or equivalent.
  • Three years of professional accounting experience.
  • A Bachelor's degree may be substituted with six years of varied full charge bookkeeping experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and/or review financial statements and other reports.
  • Perform fiscal year-end review and analysis of accounting records; determine necessary adjustments; compile appropriate audit work papers.
  • Analyze monthly accounting procedures to improve process.
  • Analyze policies and procedures for recordation.
  • Serve as Finance liaison for various City divisions.
  • Requisition grant funds and prepare certain grantor reports; monitor federal and state regulations and guidelines on grants; and coordinate annual single audit.
  • Analyze and evaluate departmental budgets.
  • Develops Finance Divisions recommendations regarding budget requests.
  • Prepare budget review reports and assist departments in producing their sections of the Preliminary Budget.
  • Provide training and technical guidance to Accounting Specialists regarding specialized areas of accounting.
  • Assist in preparation of long-term financial plans and revenue projections.
