About The Position

The purpose of Account Manager is to oversee the operation of customer account(s), manage daily dock activities and workflow ensuring safety, quality and production goals are met in an efficient and effective manner and to serve as a trusted leader with the ability to encourage, motivate, and promote the well-being of office and dock associates.

  • High school Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of dock personnel supervision
  • Experience in cross docking or shipping and receiving environment
  • Familiar with OSHA laws and safety policies and procedures related to dock operations
  • Knowledge of proper freight handling/loading techniques.
  • Superb people skills in mentoring, coaching/counseling, motivation, performance management, and employee relations.
  • Exceptional analytical, root-cause-analysis, and decision-making abilities
  • Effective written and verbal communication abilities including presentation skills with recommendations and data
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement, provide accurate reporting, and utilize data
  • AS400 knowledge

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Familiarity with AS 400 and/or PC applications.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with all safety standards and requirements to assure a safe and hazard-free workplace.
  • Directly supervise, coach and mentor supervisors and team leads
  • Supervise all activities of dockworkers and communicate operation progress to the Operations Manager.
  • Maintain dock facilities in an organized manner
  • Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures and safety standards
  • Utilize independent judgment and effectively recommend personnel actions in accordance with company policy and procedures.
  • Effectively communicate and execute company safety program and practices to dock personnel and enforce safety policies.
  • Develop, retain, and lead team members to ensure efficient operations in support of company’s mission and goals.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and provide recommendations to SECO Management team to maintain efficient dock processes to improve dock operations performance.
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings and provide education to employees, as necessary.
  • Develop cost-saving methods for increased terminal productivity.
  • Contribute to short- and long-term organizational planning and strategy
  • Project and schedule dock employees based on forecasted business levels.
  • Coach and instruct employees to increase individual and team performance.
  • Recognize, reward, and reinforce good performance
  • Promote team building efforts to increase team morale
  • Promote an open-door environment for employees to voice their concerns
  • Oversee the training and development program of all dock employees
  • Provide frequent, constructive feedback to continually improve performance.
  • Assist in the hiring and performance evaluations of dock employees
  • Ensure labor hours are well balanced amongst team members while achieving fatigue factor metrics
  • Flexibility with schedule to get customer freight processed in a timely manner
  • Oversee supervisors to insure opening and closing procedures are being follow according to policies and procedures
  • Coordinate all activities of dock workers, including processing floor, mix and pallet freight
