About The Position

The Account Manager will support communications strategy and media engagement for Microsoft's business, helping protect and strengthen brand reputation by translating complex issues into clear, credible narratives for key audiences. This role involves managing day-to-day client needs, driving PR campaigns, and fostering strong media and influencer relationships. Ideal candidates are proactive communicators with strong analytical writing, relationship-management skills, and a passion for helping organizations communicate clearly in moments that matter. This role may manage direct reports.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in integrated communications or PR, preferably in an agency setting and/or within an applicable industry; 1+ years of management experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in strategic communications, corporate image, and/or issues management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (particularly Outlook, Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint and Excel) and experience using AI tools like Copilot.

  • Experience working with clients in the technology or science industry.
  • Demonstrated customer service orientation and ability to establish a consulting relationship with clients. High level of initiative; take accountability for role on projects.
  • Experience engaging with reporters and pitching stories; having established media and/or creator influencer relationships is a plus.
  • Demonstrated creative and strategic mindset, and ability to synthesize complex information and translate it into clear, compelling content for a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to analyze the news and social media environment, and provide strategic recommendations based on business and industry knowledge.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong editorial judgment, including proficiency in AP style and ability to edit for accuracy, clarity and consistency.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced team environment (frequent tight deadlines, shifting priorities, multitasking, etc.); job pressure may exist from requirement of handling multiple tasks.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English and experience working with colleagues or clients across multiple locations.
  • May need to work more than 40 hours per week on occasion.

Responsibilities

  • Manage company news announcements and media cycles across corporate issues, helping to coordinate responses and drive execution in fast-paced environments.
  • Build and maintain relationships with reporters, industry influencers, and content creators, identifying opportunities to place stories and interviews to strengthen client visibility.
  • Serve as day-to-day counsel for clients and internal stakeholders, providing informed recommendations, managing expectations, flagging risks early and keeping workstreams aligned and on schedule.
  • Lead planning sessions and brainstorms, helping identify creative storytelling opportunities and new approaches to audience engagement.
  • Draft and develop a wide range of communications materials, including pitches, media materials like FAQs, executive briefing documents, reactive statements, and coverage reports.
  • Monitor and analyze media, social, industry and competitive conversations to identify emerging reputational risks and opportunities; translate findings into actionable recommendations that protect and strengthen brand trust.
  • Support integrated earned, owned, social, and influencer campaigns that advance business objectives by coordinating deliverables and tracking performance.
  • Coordinate cross-functional efforts across multiple client, agency, and partner teams to gather information, align messaging, and support program execution.
  • May manage career development and performance of direct reports, managing up to senior staff on important issues, and client/team satisfaction while holding the team accountable to demonstrating agency values.
  • Other duties as assigned.
