POSITION SUMMARY & PURPOSE: The Account Executive (PR) serves as a primary day-to-day contact for clients and plays a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and managing public relations programs. This position combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution to deliver high-quality results across multiple accounts. The Account Executive-PR works closely with senior leadership to translate client goals into actionable PR strategies-overseeing media relations, content development, campaign execution, and reporting. This role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced agency environment. To lead the tactical execution of client public relations programs, ensuring strategic alignment, strong media relationships, and measurable results. The Account Executive drives day-to-day account activities, supports junior team members, and serves as a trusted client partner who helps shape brand reputation and visibility.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in public relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Experience: 2-5 years of professional PR experience (agency experience strongly preferred).
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and media databases (e.g., Cision, Muck Rack, Meltwater).
  • Familiarity with analytics and reporting tools.
  • Strong writing, editing, and AP Style proficiency.
  • Other Requirements: Proven ability to manage multiple accounts and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated media relations success with relevant placements.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and professional communication style.

Responsibilities

  • Client & Account Management Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients, ensuring timely and professional communication.
  • Translate client goals into effective public relations strategies and measurable deliverables.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables with precision.
  • Lead client meetings, provide status reports, and proactively identify opportunities or challenges.
  • Support the PR Manager or Account Director with strategic planning and campaign oversight.
  • Media Relations & Outreach Develop and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, and influencers across relevant industries.
  • Draft and distribute media materials, including press releases, story pitches, media alerts, and bylined articles.
  • Secure media placements in local, trade, and national outlets that align with client objectives.
  • Prepare clients for media interviews and coordinate logistics for press opportunities.
  • Monitor and report on media coverage and industry trends.
  • Content Development Write, edit, and review a variety of PR content, including press releases, talking points, Q&As, social content, newsletters, and website copy.
  • Ensure all materials align with client messaging, tone, and brand standards.
  • Collaborate with creative and digital teams to integrate PR messaging into broader campaigns.
  • Campaign Strategy & Execution Contribute to the development of annual communication plans, campaign calendars, and pitch strategies.
  • Manage campaign execution from concept to completion, ensuring deadlines and goals are met.
  • Track and evaluate campaign performance metrics to demonstrate impact and ROI.
  • Team Collaboration & Mentorship Support, guide, and review work produced by Associate Account Executives and interns.
  • Foster collaboration across departments and with external partners.
  • Contribute to internal brainstorms and agency thought leadership initiatives.
