This role involves evaluating new vehicle accessories to ensure quality levels meet or exceed requirements, with no impact on KPIs such as JD Power IQS, VDS, and Consumer Reports. The engineer will install and remove accessories, assess installation difficulty, evaluate instruction clarity, test accessory function, and participate in instrumented tests. Documentation through clear, concise reports is essential. The role requires follow-up with vendors and relevant parties to address and resolve accessory quality concerns, including identifying, documenting, communicating, and tracking issues until resolution or firm countermeasure dates are provided. Other related duties as assigned by the Project Manager.

Requirements

High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required.
Must be familiar with the mechanical and electrical systems in vehicles.
Must have excellent technical report writing ability.
Must be well versed in Microsoft Office Suite, and standard photo editing software (i.e. Photoshop) to support reports.
Candidate must be able to operate standard and proprietary automotive test equipment (e.g. DVOM, SPL Meter, RTA, etc.) and obtain meaningful test data.
Must have a valid California driver’s license and good driving record.
Must be able to conduct business interactions in a professional manner as an agent in all interactions with employees, management and external organizations.
Physically capable to accomplish the tasks assigned to the program, including lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. without sustaining injury.
Mechanical hands-on assembly/disassembly.
Willing to help with shop cleaning and general shop duties when necessary.
Willing to travel up to 5%, typically single day trips to Proving Grounds.
Willing to undertake some overnight trips.
Must be able to be trained to operate a forklift for occasional use.
Use equipment consistent with industry standards.

Nice To Haves

Degree in engineering in a relevant discipline (e.g., electrical, mechanical, or automotive sub-specialty) is preferred but not required.
Previous automotive OEM experience in a similar capacity is preferred.
First Aid/CPR Certified preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Install and remove accessories for evaluation.
Evaluate installation difficulty, quality of instructions, and accessory function.
Participate in instrumented tests as required.
Document the evaluation process with clear and concise reports in the standard format.
Follow up with vendors and/or appropriate parties to address accessory quality related concerns.
Identify, document (via Quality Info Report), communicate quality concerns, and follow up until resolution.
Provide QA support for the Accessory Part program once the part reaches mass production and distribution.
Monitor all sources of quality feedback (e.g., field reports, warranty claims, IQS forecasts/mimics, Consumer Reports, CQI data) for issue discovery & validation.
Work with QA departments to develop and implement effective countermeasures.
Author QIRs (Quality Information Reports) to register accessory quality issues.
Author TSBs (Technical Service Bulletins) as required.
Monitor warranty claims for current PIO/DIO Accessory programs.
Monitor Accessory quality issues from the field by reviewing FSE, CA and EQF reports.
Validate reported quality issues, recommend appropriate courses of action, and report findings to Service management.
Coordinate & track implementation of all Accessory program countermeasures.
Assist with training newly hired Accessory Quality Engineers.
Drive company cars to evaluate installed accessories both statically and dynamically.
