About The Position

The Accessioning Clerk Trainer is responsible for the daily training of new hires in accessioning activities, including receiving, accessioning, and scanning specimens and requisitions. This role handles more complex procedures and requires a higher efficiency rate. The trainer works under the direction of the Accessioning Supervisor and plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of the Accessioning department.

Requirements

  • Over five years prior experience as an Accessioning Clerk required.
  • Medical laboratory experience required.
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.

Responsibilities

  • Trains and oversees all new hires in all Accessioning processes for a minimum of 2 weeks.
  • Completes all new hires onboarding on their first day of employment.
  • Determines if new hires are meeting goals, expectations, and following proper processes.
  • Works directly with the Accessioning Supervisor on retraining underperforming employees.
  • Follows up with new hires on any Quality Assurance issues or errors made in their first 90 days.
  • Works with the QA Supervisor to review QAs and retrain individuals with processing errors.
  • Reviews and updates SOPs as needed.
  • Updates/implements training materials and reviews for process improvements.
  • Determines if a new employee will be successful in their current position and can move out of the training program.
  • Reviews specimen requisitions from the training group daily against data entry for accuracy, documents errors, and forwards documentation to the supervisor.
  • Pulls and reviews weekly/monthly QA reports for the Quality Assurance department.
  • Receives and clocks in specimens from couriers timely and verifies received specimens against courier logs.
  • Prioritizes and sorts specimens appropriately for accessioning and processing.
  • Performs data entry login of patient demographics, clinical information, specimen source, and test orders from specimen requisitions into computer systems.
  • Accessions specimen containers as needed or required.
  • Checks test orders for medical necessity requirements and ABN if applicable, documenting any orders lacking appropriate documentation.
  • Documents all problem cases appropriately.
  • Scans requisitions and related paperwork into the scan system, and shreds documents as needed.
  • Answers departmental phone calls and assists clients.
  • Contributes to a positive work climate and team effort.
  • Exercises all laboratory safety precautions and adheres to lab procedures.
  • Works with the critical specimen log.
  • Monitors and evaluates specimen arrival times and Turnaround Times (TAT).
  • Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with industry's best security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and other sensitive company data.
