About The Position

Sagis Diagnostics is an entirely physician-led sub-specialty pathology group supported by a CAP-accredited histology lab located in the heart of Houston, Texas. Led by a team of board-certified pathologists, our lab is at the forefront of diagnostic science. We offer the highest quality services to physicians, physician groups, ambulatory surgery centers, and hospitals. One of our many strengths is we develop strong collaborative relationships with each of our referring physicians by offering accurate, prompt, and clear diagnoses in a personal and customized manner. Sagis Diagnostics is looking to hire an Accessioner for the night shift, Monday through Friday, 11 pm to 7:30 am, in the Main Lab in Houston.

Requirements

High school education or equivalent REQUIRED.
Good Attention to Detail is REQUIRED.
MUST be able to type at least 40 WPM.
Demonstrated ability to follow procedures.
Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
Ability to work in a standing position at times.
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
Ability to work late shifts and weekends when necessary.
Intermediate knowledge and skills in the operation of computers.
Ability to interact well with people and pleasant telephone manners.
Ability to work well under direction of the Laboratory Director and others in a supervisory capacity.

Nice To Haves

Office experience, preferably in a medical or other health care setting.
Bachelor’s degree in Biology/Chemistry or similar fields required for advancing to other lab positions.
Alternate advancement to Medical Billing also possible with appropriate certification.

Responsibilities

Enter specimen data into the laboratory information system.
Verify proper request forms are used.
Ensure requisitions are properly identified with patient's full name, DOB, tissue site, date of collection, and physician’s name.
Ensure specimen bottles are properly identified with the patient’s name, tissue site, date of collection, and physician’s name.
Confirm specimen bottles match requisition forms and that complete demographic and specimen source information is provided.
Return specimens and requisitions to the sender for completion if information is missing, or contact the client to obtain necessary information.
Properly label all specimen bottles and cassettes with the appropriate accession number.
Perform transcription and mailing of laboratory business correspondence.
Maintain filing systems for laboratory reports, correspondence, and business documents.
Maintain various logs.
Handle and direct telephone and other incoming and outgoing laboratory communication.
Ensure slides are filed properly and have proper labels affixed.
Perform other tasks in the laboratory as deemed necessary by the Laboratory Supervisor.
Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures of Sagis.
