About The Position

The Accessibility Consultant is responsible for performing technical accessibility assessments of the built environment in accordance with the ADA, applicable building codes, and related accessibility standards. Success in this role is demonstrated through accurate evaluations, well-supported findings, and clear, professional documentation that supports clients in understanding compliance obligations and corrective strategies. This role requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to research and interpret complex accessibility requirements. The Accessibility Consultant plays a critical role in delivering high-quality accessibility consulting services and supporting the firm’s technical credibility nationwide. Travel is required in the United States.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, planning, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience performing ADA and/or accessibility assessments of the built environment, and 4-10 years for a more experienced assessor/consultant.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the ADA Standards for Accessible Design and other Accessibility Standards and Building Codes, as they relate to accessibility (e.g., IBC, CBC, ICC A117.1).
  • Strong ability to read and interpret architectural and site plans.
  • Proficiency in field measurement, documentation, and technical report writing.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to apply codes accurately and consistently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Ability to perform detailed technical work in a fast-paced consulting environment with quick-turn deadlines and competing priorities
  • Effective time-management skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments concurrently.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
  • Ability to perform field work, including walking sites, standing for extended periods, bending, kneeling, and carrying measuring equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • CASp, RAS, or similar accessibility certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site accessibility assessments of existing facilities, new construction, and alterations in accordance with the ADA, applicable state building codes, and referenced accessibility standards.
  • Review architectural drawings, specifications, and construction documents to identify accessibility compliance issues.
  • Measure and document existing conditions accurately, against the applicable codes or standards.
  • Identify non-compliant conditions and cite applicable codes and standards clearly and consistently.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and well-organized technical reports outlining findings, code references, and corrective recommendations.
  • Evaluate proposed corrective actions for feasibility and potential secondary or ripple effects on adjacent elements or spaces.
  • Conduct research to resolve ambiguous or complex accessibility conditions and document interpretations appropriately.
  • Communicate findings professionally with internal team members and, when appropriate, with clients and project stakeholders.
  • Manage assigned tasks to meet project schedules and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with project managers and senior staff to ensure consistency in approach, methodology, and documentation.
  • Maintain awareness of updates to accessibility regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced work environment while meeting quick-turn project deadlines.
  • Maintain accuracy and attention to detail under time constraints.
