About The Position

This position involves interviewing and obtaining all necessary information to register or admit patients. It includes obtaining signatures for permission for treatment and reimbursement for services, as well as securing billing information and ensuring pre-authorizations and other reimbursement requirements are met. The role also handles patient discharge, assists with posting and verifying charges, and maintains medical records. All tasks must be performed in compliance with department and hospital policies, demonstrating efficient and professional behavior.

Requirements

  • High School diploma
  • Working knowledge of computers
  • Medical terminology required
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to interact with customers in both hospital and clinic environments
  • Basic keyboard/typing skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Calculator skills

Nice To Haves

  • One year of hospital or clinic revenue cycle experience
  • Medical terminology may also be completed through SEH training and development electronic education program within orientation period.

Responsibilities

  • Interview and obtain all necessary information to register or admit patients.
  • Obtain signatures for permission for treatment and reimbursement for services.
  • Obtain billing information, ensure pre-authorizations are obtained for treatment and all other reimbursement requirements are met.
  • Discharge patients upon completion of treatment.
  • Assist with posting and verifying of charges.
  • Maintain medical records.
  • Perform all tasks and duties in compliance with department and hospital policies.
  • Demonstrate efficient and professional behavior at all times.
  • Provide answers to inquiries and questions as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Troubleshoot problems and provide information.
  • Handle intervention or referrals with a professional and respectful customer service focus telephonically and/or in person.
  • Provide a variety of support services in connection to the day-to-day operations in a health care environment.
  • Act as the first and ongoing point of contact for all clients either by phone or in person.
  • Provide scheduling or patient enrollment for services.
  • Enter/update all demographic information, financial/billing information, caregiver contact information, and additional information needed to complete patient record.
  • Verify third party payer coverage.
  • Collect self-pay balances.
  • Schedule patients for planned clinical services.
  • Make referrals for customers to appropriate resources.
  • Stay calm while interacting with clients telephonically or in person.
  • Adapt to a consistently changing fast-paced environment that requires excellent multi-tasking skills.
  • Be flexible with business needs and report daily with a “can do” approach.
  • Provide estimates for clinical services.
  • Perform transcription of basic orders in software system for patient account processing.
  • Obtain/initiate authorizations for clinical services when required.
  • Obtain all required signatures needed for billing and clinical treatment.
  • Coordinate assistance and initiate self-pay workflows.
  • Assist patients with SE Health financial assistance programs.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
