About The Position

The Dallas College Facilities Management Department supports the facility needs for Dallas College while providing responsible stewardship and efficient operation of the College's physical assets. The Facilities Management Department is responsible for approximately 5,500,000 sq. ft. of physical space and over 1300 acres of land, located across multiple locations in Dallas County. The Access Control Technician position supports that effort through completing work orders related to access control.

Requirements

  • Electronic access control systems, particularly proximity card-based systems such as Avigilon.
  • Locksmithing principles, including installation, re-keying, and maintaining traditional lock and key systems.
  • Surveillance camera systems, including IP and analog cameras, and video management systems.
  • Integration of security systems for seamless operation, particularly in large institutional settings.
  • Safety practices, codes, and regulations as related to the installation and maintenance of access control equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, with the ability to resolve technical issues in a timely manner.
  • Proficiency in software and hardware related to access control and surveillance systems.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and maintain positive relationships with staff and faculty.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to resolve issues and ensure the safety and security of campus facilities.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation of all work performed, including work orders in a CMMS such as TMA.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and in emergency situations.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Able to gather, compile, and analyze data/information and prepare reports.
  • Ability to read schematics and use hand and power tools.
  • Must have the ability to maintain the security and integrity of the critical infrastructure of Dallas College.
  • 2 years of related building access control/surveillance, and/or traditional lock/key systems experience.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license.
  • Will be subject to a criminal background check.
  • Some positions may be subject to a fingerprint check.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain electronic access control systems, such as Avigilon proximity card systems.
  • Repair and maintain door hardware, such as card readers, closers, electric strikes, and magnetic locks.
  • Program access schedules, credentials, and system permissions using access control software.
  • Install, repair, and replace locks, cylinders, and tumblers.
  • Re-key locks and provide key duplication services.
  • Manage and maintain a master key system, including conducting key usage audits.
  • Install, configure, and maintain surveillance camera systems, including IP-based and analog cameras.
  • Conduct regular inspections of cameras to ensure proper operation, video quality, and recording functionality.
  • Troubleshoot camera issues, such as connectivity problems, hardware malfunctions, or storage failures.
  • Collaborate with IT and Facilities teams to resolve network, wiring, and power-related issues.
  • Integrate surveillance camera systems with access control platforms and other security systems for seamless operation.
  • Perform updates, upgrades, and regular backups of all security systems, including access control and surveillance.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues with locks, access control systems, and surveillance equipment.
  • Respond promptly to emergency repair requests to minimize security risks or operational disruptions.
  • Maintain detailed records, including key inventories, camera placements, system configurations, maintenance logs, and access reports.
  • Ensure compliance with Dallas College security policies and applicable local and federal regulations.
  • Accurately document work orders and service requests in the CMMS, such as TMA, ensuring timely resolution and proper tracking of service requests.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to campus staff and faculty, addressing their access control and surveillance needs in a timely and professional manner.
  • Troubleshoot issues and answer questions from staff regarding security systems, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Provide training to staff on the proper use and basic troubleshooting of access control and surveillance systems.
  • Serve as a resource for technical support, addressing concerns or issues related to security equipment.
  • Complete required professional development hours as required.
