About The Position

We are a growing technology VAR delivering integrated security solutions—including access control, video surveillance, and supporting infrastructure—to federal, education, and commercial clients. We are seeking a Director of Security Systems to lead and scale our end-to-end operational and technical execution. This role oversees the full lifecycle of our security solutions practice, including pre-sales engineering, system design, estimating, project delivery, field operations, and service. This leader will manage a multi-layered organization, with direct reports that may include managers of estimating, engineering, field operations, and service. The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on, with deep industry expertise and a proven ability to deliver high-quality solutions while building high-performing teams and leaders.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in physical security systems (access control, CCTV, surveillance)
  • 5+ years in a senior leadership role overseeing multiple functions (engineering, estimating, operations, field teams)
  • Experience managing managers or multi-layered teams
  • Experience working within a VAR, integrator, or security systems provider
  • Strong understanding of platforms such as [Verkada, Avigilon, Hirsch, Axis, Hanwha, Brivo, Milestone, etc.]
  • Proven track record of operational excellence and successful project delivery at scale
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting and margin management
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with federal and/or public sector clients
  • Knowledge of low-voltage systems, networking, and infrastructure
  • Experience with compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST, FedRAMP, or similar)
  • Skill in scaling service-based revenue models

Responsibilities

  • Own operational performance and profitability of the security systems business line
  • Partner with sales leadership to support growth strategy across federal, education, and commercial sectors
  • Develop scalable processes and infrastructure to support business growth
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with manufacturers and technology vendors
  • Lead pre-sales engineering and estimating functions
  • Oversee development of accurate scopes, system designs, and cost estimates
  • Support complex pursuits, RFP responses, and technical solution positioning
  • Partner with sales on pricing strategies to ensure accurate scoping and margin targets
  • Lead system architecture and engineering standards for access control and surveillance solutions
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, federal requirements, and industry best practices
  • Drive consistency in design, documentation, and bill-of-material development
  • Oversee project management, installation, commissioning, and field operations teams
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to quality standards
  • Implement scalable processes for estimating, scheduling, and resource planning
  • Drive continuous improvement across delivery and field execution
  • Lead service/maintenance programs and recurring revenue growth
  • Establish SLAs, service standards, and customer support processes
  • Ensure high customer satisfaction and retention
  • Lead a team of managers across key functions such as estimating, engineering, project management, field operations, and service
  • Build, mentor, and develop both individual contributors and frontline managers
  • Establish clear performance metrics, accountability, and reporting structures
  • Drive organizational alignment across pre-sales, delivery, and service teams
