Access and Stewardship Program Director

onXMinneapolis, MN
$149,000 - $186,000Remote

About The Position

onX is seeking an experienced Access & Stewardship Program Director to run and grow the company's A&S program. This person defines program priorities, drives annual planning, and oversees grants, stewardship initiatives, customer education, access-related geospatial and product integration projects, partnerships, and policy-informed programs. The Program Director is both a strategist and a hands-on operator. The core of the job is program strategy, prioritization, and delivery: translating A&S priorities into clear plans and measurable initiatives that align with onX's business and brand priorities. This person connects policy context, stewardship priorities, partnerships, education, and tools into a cohesive program rather than a set of disconnected efforts. A defining part of this role is guiding how onX expands its political exposure: deliberately, in nonpartisan and credibility-building ways, and with clear-eyed judgment about risk. This person will surface trade-offs and risks early and provide clear recommendations so senior leadership can make deliberate, informed decisions. Success looks like a focused and credible program, sound partner and investment choices, measurable progress, and executive-ready reporting on impact, trade-offs, and where to invest next. This role reports to the Director of Brand Programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, Environmental Studies, Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

  • Direct experience in federal policy, advocacy, or government relations, including interaction with congressional offices, federal agencies, or policy partners.
  • Experience leading complex, cross-functional programs or initiatives from strategy through execution, with responsibility for priorities, partners, and measurable outcomes.
  • Experience working across nonprofit, public-sector, government affairs, or other mission-driven partnership environments.
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders with and without direct authority and put enterprise outcomes ahead of their own lane.
  • Strong strategic thinking, prioritization, and judgment, including the ability to surface trade-offs and make recommendations in ambiguous or evolving environments.
  • A track record of taking ownership and moving work forward without waiting for perfect clarity or ideal conditions.
  • Comfort operating as both strategist and doer, setting direction while executing hands-on with a small team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, tailored to senior leaders, external partners, and cross-functional teams.
  • Experience using data, reporting, and qualitative insight to inform decisions, measure progress, and improve program outcomes.
  • Experience leading or developing a direct report, with a leadership style grounded in maturity, accountability, and low ego.

  • A shared passion for and ability to demonstrate onX’s Company Values.
  • Permanent US work authorization is a condition of employment with onX.
  • Ability to travel monthly for multiple days to a corporate office or other onX strategic location, such as a Basecamp.
