About The Position

Orlando Health is offering an Accelerated RN Student Nurse Extern Program for nursing students seeking hands-on experience prior to graduation. This program allows students to work in various nursing units, including specialty, medical-surgical, and progressive care units, under the guidance of a trained preceptor. The program aims to develop early-career talent and provide a comprehensive learning experience, fostering confidence and competence as students transition into their senior year of nursing school. Externs will have the opportunity to network with leadership, engage in community service, receive mentorship, and explore future graduate nurse positions within the organization.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Associates or Bachelor of Science in Nursing program with an expected graduation date of December 2026 through February 2027.
  • Must have completed nursing program courses and clinicals during the Summer 2026 semester.
  • Availability to participate in the ASNE Program from September 4, 2026 through February 2027, one 12-hour shift a week, with minimal absence required.
  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
  • Active American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification through the end of February 2027.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference given to students who do not have the summer off during the nursing program.
  • Enrolled in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Expose students to nursing departments to gain experience, confidence, and competence.
  • Work directly with a RN trained preceptor in a 1-on-1 environment.
  • Participate in supplementary educational sessions.
  • Build confidence as a future nurse.
  • Work at one hospital on an assigned unit.
  • Work up to 12 hours per week, following the preceptor's schedule.
  • Explore and apply to system-wide nursing opportunities.
  • Network with Orlando Health nursing leadership.
