About The Position

The Academic Support Teacher develops coursework to support effective instruction of an assigned academic subject at the school level. The teacher delivers instruction that promotes an exemplary educational program and supports success for all students. The role includes classroom instruction, curriculum and lesson planning, assessment, student progress monitoring, classroom management, communication with families and staff, and collaboration across the school and district. The position is based at Smoky Hill High School and reports to the School Principal. The role requires a bachelor’s degree and a valid, unexpired Colorado Department of Education teaching license. A criminal background check and fingerprinting are required for hire. The work takes place in a normal classroom and school district environment, may include outdoor student supervision, and involves moderate physical effort.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree.
Valid and unexpired Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license.
Basic knowledge of typical office equipment, including telephones, copiers, fax machines, and email.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Basic classroom management and planning skills.
Basic organizational skills.
Intermediate verbal and written communication and interpersonal relations skills.
Ability to align curriculum and assessments with state content standards.
Ability to support programs designed to increase student achievement.
Ability to assume leadership in developing and communicating programs and curriculum.
Ability and desire to work as a team member and actively participate in a Professional Learning Community.
Ability to understand, appreciate, and make accommodations for student diversity.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholder groups.

Ability to meet the role’s physical demands, including prolonged standing and walking, frequent bending, reaching, and climbing, and lifting up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

Instruct students in large-group, small-group, and one-on-one settings.
Develop, plan, prepare, and implement course content, structure, schedules, individualized instructional programs, classroom materials, curriculum, lesson plans, and learning activities.
Administer, edit, proofread, and grade student assignments and assessments.
Design varied assessment tasks, use assessment data to provide meaningful feedback, and modify instruction accordingly.
Create a classroom environment that maximizes instructional opportunities; supervise student behavior and well-being in educational settings; and administer discipline when appropriate.
Monitor student growth and progress, adapt support as needed, and maintain documentation concerning students’ academic, social, and emotional progress and needs.
Communicate students’ progress, needs, and eligibility with parents or guardians and other staff as needed.
Collaborate with teachers, support personnel, administrators, and colleagues to enhance instruction and improve student outcomes.
Participate in department, team, building, and district meetings and discussions; student and family conferences; social, cultural, interscholastic, and extracurricular activities; and professional growth opportunities.
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
